A Peek into Human-Machine Relation

Nigel Hollis of Kantar Millward Brown once wrote "Emotional and factual appeals cannot be easily separated, "Our devices are quite intelligent. They know what we touch and type, where we are and what we say. They even know how we look, but when it comes to how we feel and what we mean, they are quite clueless. There is no doubt that human emotions are complicated and, the human voice is the most personal and revealing "emotional designator". But at the moment, this is still waiting for the next major revolution.

More than what words can tell us, there is always a whole new story hidden beyond those words. No doubt we have to move beyond the words to fully comprehend. It's not what we mean in certain situations and nor how we say it. We understand this intuitively, and in the last 50 years, research in neuropsychology has shown that body language and voice intonation have a greater effect than your actual choice of words.

'Emotions Analytics' is a new field, which defines, analyses and covers the full range of human emotions, including mood, attitude and emotional personality. Now imagine Emotions Analytics, which opens up a new layer of human-machine interfaces, embedded within mobile apps and smartphones. EA software vendors have started finding the data from the customers sharing their emotions on Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as on websites and videos. The creation of software for emotion analytics involves large quantities of such labelled emotion data. The data on emotions are captured from video cameras that record facial expressions and microphones that, for example, collect data on voice tones. This data is fed into algorithms for machine learning that learns to identify expressions, tones, and other features that correlate with particular emotions. Today's technology for emotion recognition usually categorizes emotions like anger, fear, confusion, disgust, fear, frustration, joy, sadness, surprise or contempt. Today innovations and inventions are happening in the world of analytics way beyond what we could ever imagine. Software developers are slowly transforming human and machine interaction into a whole new experience so that humans can have a much better experience and this has much wider effects than we could even think of.
