International Women's Day

International Women�s Day is observed every year on 8^th March to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women throughout the world. The day also marks as the lobby for accelerated gender parity and to raise awareness about women�s equality. The first National Women�s Day was observed in the United States on 28^th February 1909. The Socialist Party of America celebrated this day in honour of the garment worker's strike in 1908 in New York where women marched, demanding improved working conditions and equal rights since then National Women�s Day was being observed in the USA. It was on 19^th March 1911 that International Women�s Day was being celebrated for the first time in Germany, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland to promote equal rights and suffrage for women. Over 1 million men and women participated in rallies in demand for the right to vote, to hold public office, women�s right to work, vocational training and to end discrimination on the job. However, it was during 1977 United Nations started observing International Women�s Day on 8^th March. The day is represented by three colours purple, green and white where purple signifies justice and dignity, green symbolises hope and white represents purity.

We at SCMS NOIDA celebrate international women�s day not just to empower women but to celebrate the presence of all the women in our lives right from our family to our workplace and even the places they might help us knowingly or unknowingly.

The theme for this year�s International Women�s Day is Women in leadership � Achieving an equal future in the world of COVID-19. This year�s Women�s Day is like no other. As countries slowly start to recover from the devastating pandemic, we have a chance to celebrate the women and girls throughout the world.� Women are building a future that�s sustainable, peaceful, inclusive and equitable. The theme of international women� day this year is a very important one indeed.

Women can be and in fact, even have proven out to be great leaders, a few examples are Indra Gandhi India�s first female Prime Minister, Pratibha Patil India�s first female President, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris and many more women who inspire each one of us, talking about the theme the world has not been as sweet to the female population than their male counterparts especially when it is about the representation of women as leaders in politics, seeing the facts one can easily come to know how the number of women in the political positions compared to men is highly disproportionate and by having an equal presence of women in not only politics but also in leadership positions, the interests and values of the female population would be better represented in the world. SCMS NOIDA believes that we have to work on it from a primary level and hence it should be the duty of the society in which the future leaders grow, to give women platforms to be in power and achieve economic success.

Despite this, there are barriers that hold women and girls back like access to education, the right to vote and discriminated working environment. We need to fully harness the power of women�s leadership to make them empowered. It is always said that with challenge comes to change so let�s all choose to challenge the world to forge a gender-equal world where achievements of both men and women are celebrated equally. It is all about celebrating the women around you and increasing their visibility by calling out inequality. . At last, the only thing that comes to my mind is �It is time for action! The world needs to step away from the same treatment and go to equal treatment�. She is a believer, she is a doer, she is an achiever, she�s a woman, she is �You� Happy Women�s Day.
